I Want To Buy An Electric Car ~ No One Will Sell Me One
I recently watched the movie Who Killed the Electric Car and loved it so much, I am going to trade in my gasoline nightmare and buy an electric car to the first auto company that contacts me and gives me the opportunity to purchase one. The only caveat is that I do not want to drive all the way across the country in order to buy it. I am willing to drive within a 250 mile radius of Chicago.
I have made efforts on my own, but thought this might be more effective. I mean, how much effort can a consumer make. I want to buy an electric car. Sell me one. I have the necessary funds and good credit.
I recently contacted Zap cars to find out how I can get one. I haven’t received a response yet. I also contacted a Chrysler dealership in Chicago and this is what I discovered:
“The Smart Car will not be avaliable for retail purchase anytime soon. Chrysler still considers this a concept and will only offer it to select companies for testing, but if anything changes and it goes retail we will let you know…”
So the bottom line is, I will have to wait for someone other than the big 3 to figure out what I am blatantly asking for.
Anyone have any suggestions? Let me know in the comments below.

Hiya, we have around 20 Electric Cars (Zap, Zenn, Miles), around 15 smart cars, electric Scooters, Electric Personal Transports, 2 ATVs ready for you to purchase…
Hi Kent,
Thanks for the comment. I was looking at your site and was wondering if the $29,000 price tag is accurate? I read this article the other day where I saw this:
“Pricing should run between $12,000 for the cheapest model, and just over $20,000 for a convertible with all the available extras, Heidemann says. That’s a markup of a few thousand dollars over the price in Europe, where Heidemann has been buying them from dealers.”

Any thoughts?
I live in the UK and will travel as far as is drivable to buy an electric minibus. Actually what I really want is something electric that can be converted into a solar-powered motorcaravan with good ground clearance so that I can use it for off-road camping on the Eurasian Steppe, African Savanah, and American praries. Should be big enough to pack a mini wind-generator away inside. Jeff your site came up as the number one hit when I typed in buy order “electric car” -hybrid on google. You could start an online company as a means for electric car retailers to reach customers. Hope you got your car.
Hey Kaz,
Thanks for the response. That sounds like a fantastic idea of making a caravan both solar, and having a wind generator to recharge on either cloudy days or at night. If you get that project working, I will pay for a plane ticket to come and see it in person.
The problem with electrics, at least in Chicago and Illinois, is that they are oddly defined and have strange limitations put on them to either keep them off freeways or severely limit their speeds. It doesn’t make much sense to me, but I think it’s just a matter of legislative limitations that will catch up shortly to modern technology.
I hope you get your car as well,
Jeff
